ENGULFED

Engulfed is an immersive piece of artwork that combines technology with digital painting while simultaneously touching on the important topic of climate change and wildfires. This piece of work invites the viewer to explore a 360-degree environment that’s stuck in a cycle of chaos and tranquility, giving everyone an individual experience of different emotions and moods. Due to climate change, wildfires have become significantly more catastrophic and deadly. However, in contrast, they also introduce a cycle of rejuvenation and promote healthy growth cycles for new plants to grow. Because of this, I wanted to create an environment that lets the viewer experience both of these stages, along with the in-betweens of fire taking over and the destruction of the environment.  By creating a digital piece that’s interactive through PC, mobile and VR, it also helps reduce the carbon footprint of viewers. Because there’s no need for travel or added expenses, it creates a much more accessible and eco-friendly experience, which in turn opens up the conversation of the future of displaying artworks in a VR and digital setting. It also helps push and expand the boundaries of art within technology and a digital environment. Engulfed is showcased at OCAD Universities GradEx 106.
